Questions not covered in our buyer and seller sections

Do we ever sell lower priced guitars (sub $2000)?

Occasionally, we buy collections that contain lower priced guitars or have existing clients who ask for specific instruments to compare, and some are instruments we would not normally stock or procure. They are great guitars, but it's not what we do, so we sell them online, to other dealers, at shows, and to existing clients.

Do we charge sales tax?

Yes. In accordance with Virginia Law, we charge sales tax on all sales that occur in Virginia. Sales delivered out of state do not require us to collect sales tax.

Do we disclose repairs?

Yes. We fully disclose any work we've perfrormed or discovered during our intake process. Many vintage instruments have repairs; it's the nature of wood and guitars being used. It doesn't mean they aren't great guitars, it just means they've seen a few things.

Why do new prospective clients have to contact us via the web first?

Spam, scams, and bad intentions. We work with great guitars and great people; this initial screening allows us to save time otherwise wasted dealing with, let's say, "insincere" people and focus on our clients.

Do you have a mailing list?

Yes. You can join our list by here. Periodically, we send out emails with inventory updates, special events, and unique experiences for our community of clients.

Why don't we sell more brands of new guitars?

There are a couple of reasons. First, there are dealers in most towns, large and small. There are online stores and marketplaces that sell the most common brands and models and can have them at your door overnight. Our service fills a gap for players and collectors who are looking beyond what they can buy from their local retailer. Second, manufacturers require dealer agreements that require dealers to carry certain product mixes. We stock and procure instruments that fit our clients, not what the manufacturers need to move.

We are talking with several smaller manufacturers and boutique builders to procure new stock, but it is an ongoing process as we don't fit the mold.

Do we sell "refurbished" guitars?

Sometimes, but they are clearly disclosed. It's important to understand what "refurbished" means. "Refurbished" does not mean "refinished." A refurbished guitar is a current or recent model guitar that encountered an exception in the manufacturing process, was returned, was shipped without a part (missing tremolo bar, for example), or experienced damage before being sold. A guitar is considered refurbished when the manufacturer or third party resolves the exception, makes a repair, or inspects and resells the guitar after a return. These guitars are often brand new with nothing wrong with them, a small blemish, or invisible repair.

We work with a company called MIRC in Nashville. MIRC has relationships with manufacturers to receive their exceptions, resolve them, and get the instruments into the hands of dealers. All of their guitars undergo intensive screening and expert repair, if needed- though most don't. All of the instruments MIRC sends to dealers are clearly marked "Used" on the headstock.

A small portion of our instruments are purchased from MIRC and we discuss this with our clients prior to presenting them as options. As a dealer, we love buying instruments from MIRC because we know they are great instruments, don't have any issues, and can be sold to our clients at great discounts off of factory new. Compare that to buying on the public and private markets, where a seller may not be the most transparent or may lack the knowledge to identify issues and the risk is far greater.

Do we offer a warranty?

We want happy clients because happy clients come back. We offer a 7-day return period for sales made through our concierge program. We have never had a guitar returned. Our clients get to spend time playing and getting to know a guitar in a private setting before purchasing, but should they spend a few days with it and decide it isn't a fit, we will take it back as long as it's in the same condition as when purchased.

Sales outside of our concierge program differ; some are a 3-day return window and some are as-is. We clearly state that for each item.

For new instruments, manufacturer warranties apply. For used instruments, there are no manufacturer warranties and we do not offer an extended warranty. That said, we will always try to do what it takes to keep our clients happy.
